The Pakistan Cricket Board has finalized the schedule for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the country's top-tier domestic first-class cricket tournament, after a brief delay. The competition is set to commence on October 26 and will wrap up by December 19, according to a formal announcement.

This year's edition will see 18 teams, grouped into 16 regions, vying for supremacy. Notably, Lahore and Karachi have fielded two teams each, with Karachi Whites aiming to defend their title. Previous tournaments have seen fewer teams, highlighting the expanding competitiveness of this domestic championship.

Abdullah Niazi, director of domestic operations, emphasized the trophy's significance, stating, "Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is the pinnacle of domestic cricket in Pakistan, showcasing immense talent and preparing players for international challenges." The PCB is committed to fostering domestic cricket structure, building on past successes like the Champions One-Day Cup.

The tournament's timing will aid in player evaluation before Pakistan's Test series against South Africa, starting December 26. Vice-captain Saud Shakeel highlighted the importance of first-class cricket in preparing for international series, especially against challenging teams from South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia.
