South Africa took a firm grip on the opening Test against Bangladesh, thanks to half-centuries from Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder. By reaching 243-8 at lunch on the second day, South Africa extended their lead to 137 runs.

Mulder fell for 54, but Verreynne's unbeaten 77 displayed resilience against Bangladesh's spin attack. Earlier, Taijul Islam gave Bangladesh hope with his impressive 5-49, wrapping up South Africa's innings prematurely on the first day.

Hasan Mahmud briefly checked the growing partnership with two wickets in rapid succession, dismissing Mulder and Keshav Maharaj. The match marks the first of two Tests, with the second fixture scheduled for October 29 in Chittagong.
