In a blow to India's Commonwealth Games medal prospects, the 2026 edition in Glasgow has axed prominent sports like hockey, badminton, wrestling, cricket, and shooting. The host city aims to maintain a cost-effective and logistically streamlined event with only ten sports included.

Athletics, swimming, gymnastics, and cycling are among the disciplines retained in the official programme. Events will occur across four venues, including Scotstoun Stadium and Tollcross International Swimming Centre, with accommodations at local hotels.

The Commonwealth Games Federation emphasizes a sustainable model, aiming to generate economic benefits without public funding, and plans to redefine the Games to enhance social impact and reduce their environmental footprint.
