In a historic turn of events, New Zealand broke a 36-year drought with a stunning eight-wicket victory over India in the first Test match held in Bengaluru. Propelled by the impressive performances of bowlers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke and batsman Rachin Ravindra, the Kiwis took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

India's promising start in their second innings, highlighted by strong top-order shows from openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma, saw the team amassing a significant lead with Sarfaraz Khan's stellar 150-run contribution. However, the Indian batting order crumbled under the pressure of New Zealand's new-ball attack, led by Henry and O'Rourke, culminating in India losing seven wickets cheaply.

New Zealand's chase of 107 runs began tenuously due to Jasprit Bumrah's early strike against Tom Latham, but steadfast innings from Will Young and Rachin Ravindra secured the win. The win was underscored by Ravindra's century in the first innings, which had laid a solid foundation for New Zealand's overall dominance in the match.
