Macarthur FC, based in Sydney, faces a recruitment ban imposed by FIFA until they fulfill compensation obligations to former coach Dwight Yorke, as confirmed by Football Australia. Yorke, a past Manchester United striker, was sacked after a striking dressing-room rant in January 2023.
In recent developments, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a FIFA tribunal's decision, granting Yorke compensation of A$212,500 plus interest, citing unfair dismissal. The club described Yorke's conduct as gross insubordination but remains hopeful of a resolution before the transfer window reopens.
The club, debuting its fifth A-League season against Perth Glory, holds firm on resolving the matter by January 2025 and explores further legal channels, opting for no additional comments until then.
