In a surprising turn of events, former England batter Mark Butcher has shed light on the reasons behind Ollie Robinson's omission from the Test squad. According to Butcher, the seamer's absence is not a reflection of his skills but due to a breakdown in trust between him and the team management. This revelation comes despite Robinson's pivotal role in England's 3-0 series win against Pakistan in 2022, where he claimed nine wickets, playing a crucial part in the team's success.

Butcher, speaking on the Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, emphasized that Robinson's bowling prowess is undeniable. However, he believes that a breach in trust with management has led to his exclusion, asserting that management places significant importance on trust, which Robinson has reportedly breached one time too many for head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. This has resulted in Robinson being sidelined, despite his impressive Test record of 76 wickets at an average of 22.92 from 20 matches, including three five-wicket hauls.

Despite facing fitness challenges and a string of recent performances in the County Championship for Sussex, Robinson remains determined to make a comeback. He has openly shared his ambition to return to the England squad, especially for the highly-anticipated Ashes series in Australia next year. Robinson has expressed a renewed focus on improving his fitness to secure a spot and contribute to England's performance, underlining his unwavering dedication to the sport.
