BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla staunchly defended Kanpur as a Test match venue on Monday, despite severe rainfall forcing the abandonment of play across two days during the India vs. Bangladesh Test at Green Park.

Shukla stated that the stadium is set for infrastructure upgrades and emphasized that past matches at the 80-year-old venue were never abandoned due to weather. He acknowledged ongoing criticisms but stressed Kanpur's historical importance and the fan enthusiasm seen even during the rains.

Shukla also hinted that the upcoming IPL auction might be conducted abroad, possibly following the successful Dubai auction, to draw overseas cricket fans and expand the sport's global reach.
