Andy Carroll's Passion for Football Overrides Financial Gain

Former England striker Andy Carroll, once the most expensive British footballer, now plays in France's fourth tier for Girondins de Bordeaux, earning a modest salary of 3,500 euros ($3,901) a month.

Despite the financial disparity from his Premier League days, Carroll remains steadfast that his move is driven by a love for football rather than money. 'To be honest, it's costing me money to go and play for Girondins,' Carroll told RMC Sport. 'I'm simply happy to play football. I want to be part of the club's history.'

Carroll aims to aid Bordeaux in climbing back up the French football league system. He marked his debut weekend with a memorable two-goal performance as Bordeaux pulled off a 2-2 draw against Voltigeurs de Chateaubriant, cheered on by an enthusiastic home crowd.
