International Underdogs Gearing Up to Challenge U.S. Dominance at Presidents Cup

The U.S. enters the Presidents Cup in Montreal as the heavy favourite, continuing a tradition of dominance that dates back to 1994. The biennial event has seen the U.S. win 12 times, losing only once and drawing once. This year's U.S. team, captained by Jim Furyk, includes five of the top ten players in the world and all 12 members ranked within the top 25.

International Team captain Mike Weir, however, remains optimistic despite the odds. 'Golf's golf, and there will be challenging matches no matter what,' Weir said, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of matchplay golf. His team, featuring Japanese world number seven Hideki Matsuyama and three fellow Canadians, is ready to embrace the challenge.

Weir is also counting on crowd support as a crucial factor, recalling his 2007 win over Tiger Woods at Royal Montreal. On the other side, Furyk, who led the U.S. Ryder Cup team to a loss in 2018, is implementing changes based on past experiences to improve his team's chances. The first round, consisting of five fourball matches, kicks off Thursday.
