Mitchell Starc, Australia's seasoned pacer, has come out in strong support of teenage fast bowler Mahli Beardman. At just 19, Beardman could step up in the final ODIs against England if needed, following the injury withdrawal of left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis due to a pectoral strain. Beardman now stands as the fourth specialist quick in Australia's touring squad in the UK.

Despite not being officially included in the 16-player squad for the series, Beardman has been actively involved as a standby player. He even bowled during the innings break of the second ODI. Starc expressed confidence in the young pacer's readiness to perform at the international level, highlighting his familiarity with the squad.

"He's actually been around the group a little bit; he's run drinks when we've been over in Perth for Test matches. He's well-known to the (WA) guys and some of us older players who have been to Perth a few times know him too," Starc told cricket.com.au. "He's full of energy; we've seen him bowl a few times now. He's had a great under-19; there are some really talented bowlers in his age group. If he gets an opportunity, I'm sure he's ready to go. He's champing at the bit, being another WACA young boy around this group," Starc added.

Australia, having dropped Sean Abbott after his expensive five-over spell in the first ODI, opted for young all-rounder Aaron Hardie as the third pacer. Hardie impressed with figures of 2/26 in the second match at Headingley. With a 2-0 lead, Australia aims to seal the series in the third ODI at Riverside Ground, Durham, on Tuesday.
