England allrounder Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket, further signalling a changing of the guard in the English game. This follows the recent exits of fast-bowling legends Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson.

The 37-year-old Ali was not selected for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ali said, "It felt the time was right. I've done my part." Known for his versatility, Ali featured in 68 tests, 138 one-day internationals, and 92 Twenty20 internationals, winning the World Cup in both short formats.

A role model for British Muslims, Ali mentioned that while he still feels competitive, he is being realistic about his international future. Matthew Mott's recent dismissal as England's head coach and the omission of veterans like Ali and Jonny Bairstow indicate a push towards younger talent.

Throughout his career, Ali was a beloved member of the England squad. His accomplishments include taking 200 wickets and scoring 3,000 runs in tests, making him one of only five Englishmen to reach both landmarks. Former teammates and captains have lauded Ali for his spirit and flexibility, despite often playing to the detriment of his own career prospects. Going forward, Ali aims to continue playing franchise cricket and envisions a future role in coaching.
