Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has offered a robust defense of Shakib Al Hasan amid the all-rounder's recent struggle to find form. During the opening Test match against India at Chepauk, Shakib delivered his most costly bowling figures, conceding 129 runs in 21 overs without taking a wicket across two innings.

This marked the fifth time in his career that Shakib went wicketless in a Test after bowling at least 20 overs. Addressing the media post-match, Shanto underlined Shakib's relentless effort to regain his bowling form and his unwavering commitment to the team. "He is doing everything possible to get his form back," Shanto stated.

Despite the heavy loss and acknowledging Shakib's ongoing finger injury, Shanto expressed confidence in the team's ability to rebound in the series. He stressed the importance of focusing on their strengths and the potential for experienced players to bounce back.
