Former Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal has called on the team's batters to turn promising starts into substantial scores, with particular emphasis on openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam. Their failure to capitalize on fine starts has hindered the team's efforts in the ongoing first Test against India.

At the close of day three, Bangladesh was struggling at 158/4 amid a daunting 515-run chase. The team had shown early promise with an opening stand of 62 between Islam and Hasan before Jasprit Bumrah claimed a crucial breakthrough. Speaking on JioCinema, Tamim highlighted the necessity for the openers to seize their opportunities to bolster Bangladesh's long-term performance.

Subsequent contributions from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who remains unbeaten at 51, have kept Bangladesh's hopes alive. Earlier, India put up a resilient fight with centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, leaving Bangladesh to mount a challenging pursuit. Ravichandran Ashwin's three wickets further complicated the task for the Bangladeshi side.
