In a disappointing turn of events, the highly anticipated one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was called off without a single ball being bowled at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida. Head coach Jonathan Trott expressed his frustration over the situation, despite the ground staff's relentless efforts.

The match, which was abandoned on Friday, fell victim to an unplayable outfield and relentless rain over the five-day schedule. Trott emphasized the unexpected nature of the weather, stating it as a learning case for future matches. He highlighted that, although the team was well-prepared, adverse conditions negated any possibility of play.

Trott further asserted that the match could have provided significant learning opportunities for his players, regardless of the outcome. He lamented the missed chance for a historic contest, which would have marked a meaningful occasion for Afghanistan against New Zealand. Despite their best efforts, the impromptu weather conditions thwarted what could have been a considerable milestone in Afghan cricket.
