St. Lucia Kings (SLK) returned to their winning ways Friday by defeating St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots (STKNP) by five wickets in an exhilarating Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match. Electing to bowl first, Alzarri Joseph's two crucial wickets and Noor Ahmad's economical overs restricted the Patriots to 173/5 in 20 overs.

The chase began strongly with Johnson Charles and captain Faf du Plessis putting on a 115-run partnership for the first wicket in just 10.4 overs. Charles scored a scintillating 74 off 42 balls, while Du Plessis contributed 62 off 31 balls, giving their team a solid foundation.

Despite losing quick wickets in the middle overs, SLK kept their nerve to reach the target in 16.3 overs. Charles, for his stellar performance, was named Player of the Match. St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with one win and six losses, exacerbated by the mid-season departure of Sherfane Rutherford.

During their final home game against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Rutherford's exit was confirmed. He had played four games, amassing 35 runs at a strike rate of 194.44. In better news, South African batter Rilee Rossouw returned from a calf injury and scored a rapid 50 from 31 balls, featuring a boundary and five sixes.

The Patriots have faced several challenges this season, including the pre-season injury of Zimbabwe allrounder Sikandar Raza and the unavailability of Wanindu Hasaranga and Tabraiz Shamsi.

Brief Scores: St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots 173/5 in 20 overs (Andre Fletcher 62, Rilee Rossouw 50, Kyle Mayers 17; Alzarri Joseph 2/38) vs St. Lucia Kings 176/5 in 16.3 overs (Johnson Charles 74, Faf du Plesis 62; Wanindu Hasaranga 2/13, Josh Clarkson 2/18).
