The Indian men's team got off to a stellar 3-0 start in the second round of the 45th Chess Olympiad, with D Gukesh leading the charge against Iceland's H Stefansson.
The team faced little resistance and comfortably overcame Iceland's gritty performance, although Harikrishna had to work hard for his win. Meanwhile, the Indian women's team made their mark with a 3.5-0.5 triumph over the Czech Republic, with Tania Sachdev settling for a draw.
Grandmaster Gukesh emerged as a critical player, showcasing his chess prowess with a bold pawn sacrifice reminiscent of Garry Kasparov. As Praggnanandhaa sat out this round, Vidit Gujrathi and Arjun Erigaise also contributed significantly to India's victories.
