Sri Lanka earned a historic Test victory on English soil with an impressive performance led by opener Pathum Nissanka, who sealed the win with an unbeaten century. The visitors secured an eight-wicket triumph in the third and final match of the series at The Oval on Monday.

Despite winning the series 2-1, England missed out on achieving a clean sweep for the international summer after defeating the West Indies 3-0 in July. Starting Day 4 at 94-1 and needing 125 more runs to win, Sri Lanka completed the chase in under two hours, thanks to Sunday's effort where they bowled out England for 156 in just 34 overs, setting a target of 219.

Nissanka, who reached his second Test hundred in 107 balls, remained not out at 127 as Sri Lanka reached the target in 40.3 overs. His century, which included 13 fours and two sixes, was a momentous achievement and raised questions regarding his late inclusion in the series.
