After announcing his retirement from international cricket, Moeen Ali admitted to feeling that he could have scored more runs during his career. Ali, who last appeared for England in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, declared his retirement on Sunday, acknowledging he was no longer in the reckoning for future team selections.

The all-rounder participated in 298 international matches from 2014 to 2024 for the England cricket team. He made his debut against the West Indies in 2014, amassing 6,678 runs and claiming 366 wickets over the years. Ali was part of England's victorious campaigns in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Reflecting on his career, Ali expressed pride in his five Test centuries, emphasizing their value given his position lower down the batting order. Despite feeling he sometimes didn't do justice to his batting, Ali enjoyed his unpredictable batting style. He admitted lacking the discipline of players like Joe Root but highlighted his journey as an exciting and unpredictable one.

As a young player, Ali was inclined towards batting but developed his bowling significantly, becoming one of England's leading Test bowlers, with 204 wickets, only behind Derek Underwood and Graeme Swann. In Tests, he scored 3,094 runs at an average of 28.12 with five centuries. In ODIs, he accumulated 2,355 runs at an average of 24.27, adding 111 wickets to his tally.

In T20 Internationals, Ali scored 1,229 runs at a strike rate of 142.41 and took 51 wickets. His dynamic presence on the field and significant contributions will leave a lasting legacy in English cricket.
