Unseeded Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova, returning from a wrist injury, triumphed over Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on Wednesday, securing her spot in the U.S. Open semi-final for the second consecutive year.
Muchova, who sat out several months and underwent surgery, returned to competitive play in June. Despite battling hip discomfort during the match, she showcased remarkable resilience, leaning on her backhand slice to overcome the Brazilian 22nd seed in just 85 minutes.
Starting strong, Muchova established a 4-0 double break lead and, after Haddad Maia's brief comeback, sealed the first set. Although the second set saw more competition, Muchova's tenacity shone through as she clinched victory with an ace. She now awaits her next opponent: top seed Iga Swiatek or American sixth seed Jessica Pegula.
