India's campaign in women's singles table tennis at the Paralympics came to a close on Wednesday as Bhavinaben Patel lost to China's Ying Zhou 3-1 in the class 4 quarterfinals.

Bhavinaben, who made history by winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, fought valiantly but succumbed to a 12-14, 9-11, 11-8, 6-11 defeat. This marked the end of India's aspirations in this category.

Earlier in the competition, Sonalben Patel, another Indian contender in women's singles class 3, was ousted by Croatia's Andela Muzinic Vincetic in the round of 16.

The doubles team, consisting of Bhavinaben and Sonalben, also failed to secure a podium finish following their loss to the Korean duo of Young A Jung and Sunghye Moon in the quarterfinals.

Diagnosed with polio at the age of one, Bhavinaben competes in class 4, reserved for wheelchair-bound athletes with functional arms and hands.
