India's Bhagyashri Jadhav, hailing from Nanded district in Maharashtra, finished in fifth place in the women's shot put (F34) at the Paralympics on Tuesday. This was her second appearance at the event.

Jadhav managed a best throw of 7.28 meters, which was commendable, although not sufficient for a podium finish. China's Lijuan Zou clinched the gold medal with a season-best effort of 9.14 meters, followed by Poland's Lucyna Kornobys who secured the silver medal with an 8.33-meter throw.

The 39-year-old athlete overcame significant personal challenges, including slipping into depression after losing the use of her legs due to a tragic accident in 2006. Driven by encouragement from her friends and family, she ventured into para sports, showcasing immense resilience and determination. The F34 classification under which she competes includes athletes with co-ordination impairments such as hypertonia, ataxia, and athetosis.
