On Monday, star javelin thrower Sumit Antil made history by becoming the first Indian man and the second individual from the country to defend a Paralympic title. He won the F64 category gold with a record-breaking throw of 70.59m at the Paris Games.

The 26-year-old from Sonipat, Haryana, shattered his previous record of 68.55m set in Tokyo three years ago. Antil's world record stands at 73.29m. Despite significant back pain, he performed admirably, supporting his throws with painkillers.

By defending his title, Antil joined an elite group of Indians, including Avani Lekhara and Devendra Jhajharia, who have won two Paralympic gold medals. In addition to his Paralympic achievements, Antil has won gold in the 2023 and 2024 World Para Athletics Championships and the 2023 Asian Para Games.
