The Indian duo of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar staged a remarkable comeback after the heartbreak in the semifinals to claim the bronze medal with a close 156-155 win over Italy's Eleonora Sarti and Matteo Bonacina in the mixed team compound archery competition at the Paralympics here on Monday.
This win marks only the second time that India has secured a medal in archery at the Paralympics. The first was achieved by Harvinder Singh, who clinched a bronze at the Tokyo Games three years ago.
The victory was particularly significant as the Indians were trailing by a point with just four arrows remaining. Despite Eleonora Sarti's impressive form, the young 17-year-old Sheetal's shot was upgraded, allowing India to edge ahead. This win follows a gripping semifinal loss to Iran's Fatemeh Hemmati and Hadi Nori, showcasing the Indians' resilience and determination.
