Warrior on the Court: Ukrainian Para-Athlete's Fight Beyond the Battlefield
Yevhenii Korinets, a war amputee and former army paramedic, continues to fight for Ukraine in the Paralympics. Despite life-changing injuries from the war, sports have given him a new sense of purpose and rehabilitation. Korinets is determined to represent his country and raises concerns over Russian and Belarusian athletes competing in Paris.
Yevhenii Korinets is on a mission in Paris, aiming to show Ukraine's resilience at the Paralympics despite being out of medal contention in sitting volleyball. Once a paramedic, Korinets lost his leg during the war and found solace in sports, which helped him rehabilitate both physically and emotionally.
Sports became a lifeline for Korinets, who channeled his military experience into competitive passion. Despite Ukraine's early losses, he is critical of Russian and Belarusian athletes participating as neutrals. He appreciates the solidarity from fellow athletes and remains focused on his mission to uphold Ukraine's spirit on the international stage.
With Ukraine currently boasting 27 medals, including three golds, Korinets exemplifies the unwavering fight and pride of his nation, both on the field and court.
