Records Shattered in Race Walk Events at National Athletics Championships
Amit and Payal set new meet records in the 35km race walk events while Madhya Pradesh's Samardeep Singh Gill won the gold in shot put. The Railways and other states also performed well across various events at the 63rd National Open Athletics Championships.
Haryana's Amit and Railways' Payal shattered previous meet records in the 35km race walk events, bagging gold medals on the penultimate day of the 63rd National Open Athletics Championships at Kanteerava Stadium.
Amit clocked 2 hours 38 minutes to break the previous record of 2:39:05 set by Ram Babu in 2022, while Payal finished her race in 3:02:24, surpassing her own 2022 record of 3:04.48.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh's Samardeep Singh Gill won gold in the shot put with an effort of 19.27m. Ravi from Railways claimed the hammer throw gold with a distance of 66.41m. Prominent runners KM Chanda and Twinkle advanced to the women's 800m final, while R Vithya Ramraj, an Asian Games medallist, continued her strong form in the 400m hurdles heats.
