World number one Jannik Sinner's pursuit of a second Grand Slam title advanced impressively as he defeated Christopher O'Connell 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the fourth round at the U.S. Open on Saturday. Sinner capitalized on the early exits of top rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, dispatching his 87th-ranked opponent in just an hour and 53 minutes.

The Italian, who struggled to start in his first two U.S. Open matches, surged ahead early on Arthur Ashe Stadium court, attaining a 5-0 lead and securing the first set seamlessly. Although Australian O'Connell showed some resistance in the second set, Sinner broke early to lead 2-1 and clinched the set with a powerful cross-court forehand winner.

Continuing his aggressive approach, Sinner amassed 46 winners and broke twice in the final set, sealing the victory with a dominant serve that featured 15 aces, preventing O'Connell from earning any break points. O'Connell, failing to overcome top-10 opponents for the ninth straight time, could not breach the fourth round of a Grand Slam. Sinner will next contend against either 14th-seeded Tommy Paul or Canadian qualifier Gabriel Diallo in the fourth round.
