Indian shooter Avani Lekhara secured the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle final at the Paris Paralympics, while her compatriot Mona Agarwal clinched the bronze. This achievement marks another milestone in Lekhara's illustrious career as she maintains her reign as the Paralympic champion.
In a video shared by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), Lekhara expressed her happiness and gratitude following her victory. 'It feels nice, I am happy. I am happy to win a medal for my country. I am thankful to my team, my coaches, my parents, and my country,' said Lekhara.
Mona Agarwal, who also performed remarkably, described the final as challenging but fulfilling. 'It was a difficult final, but I am happy that I could do it. I always had this belief that I would win a medal at Paris 2024. I want to dedicate this medal to my kids,' she said.
The Indian team began the Paris Paralympics on a high note, clinching two medals in the women's 10m air rifle event. Both shooters were among the top contenders from the start of the final, with Lekhara ultimately taking the gold with a personal best score of 249.7 points.
South Korea's Yunri Lee finished in second place with 246.8 points, securing the silver medal, while India's Mona Agarwal secured the bronze with a total of 228.7 points.
