Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan faced a fine of 10 per cent of his match fee and was handed a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
During Pakistan's second innings, Shakib threw the ball at wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan after the latter had backed away in the 33rd over. As per ICC, Shakib's actions were in violation of Article 2.9, which involves throwing a ball or any cricket equipment in a dangerous manner.
The two teams will face off again in the second Test on Friday in Rawalpindi. Reflecting on the first Test, despite a wet outfield leading to a delayed start, the final day saw Bangladesh clinch a dramatic victory. The visitors needed just 30 runs to secure the win, which they achieved without losing a wicket in under seven overs.
