Kamindu Mendis struck his third century in just four Test matches, guiding Sri Lanka to a 169-run lead over England by lunch on Day 4 of the opening Test at Old Trafford.
Resuming the day at 291 for six, Mendis (101*) and Dinesh Chandimal (62*) added 87 runs, navigating a 30-minute rain delay without losing a wicket.
Mendis, who previously hit two centuries and a 92* against Bangladesh in March, continued his stellar form against England, whose seaming attack lacked edge due to Mark Wood's absence with a thigh injury. The partnership blossomed to 101, unaffected by a heavy downpour.
