Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and vice-captain Saud Shakeel approached centuries on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh, leading their team to an imposing 256 for four.

Rizwan, the more aggressive of the two, remained unbeaten on 89, supported by seven fours and a six. Shakeel, who resumed on 57, was not out on 86. The duo extended their overnight fourth-wicket stand to a commanding 142 runs in a dominating first session for Pakistan.

Bangladesh's pace bowlers failed to trouble the overnight Pakistan batting pair on a greenish wicket, leading to captain Najmul Hassan Shanto turning to spinners without success. Despite resuming from a shaky 158 for four, Pakistan demonstrated resilience and control, with Rizwan and Shakeel compiling 48 runs in the first hour. Rizwan reached his half-century in style by guiding a short ball from Nahid Rana to the boundary and then hitting a pulled six.
