Czech rider Pavel Bittner achieved a remarkable milestone by securing his first Grand Tour stage win in a dramatic photo finish during stage five of the Vuelta a Espana on Wednesday.

Wout van Aert, who was in prime contention to clinch victory in the final sprint in Seville, was edged out by the 21-year-old Bittner of the DSM-Firmenich-PostNL team.

Australian Kaden Groves completed the podium in third place, while Primoz Roglic safely retained his overall lead, concluding the stage within the main peloton.
