Australian batter Steven Smith has not dismissed the possibility of playing at the LA 2028 Olympics. The 35-year-old cricketer has given no indication of retirement, seeing himself engaged in T20 cricket over the next four years.

'I could still be playing T20 cricket in four years, so you never know,' Smith told ESPNcricinfo. 'I've signed on here for three years so it's only another year after that. It would be cool to be part of an Olympics.' Smith has inked a three-year contract with the Big Bash League's Sydney Sixers, meaning he will be playing T20 cricket at least until the 2026-27 season.

Smith has had a sporadic association with the Sixers, leading the team to its first BBL title in 2012 and becoming their first male player to score a century. He was recently left out of Australia's squad for the T20 World Cup and spent time in the US, where he captained Washington Freedom to a Major League Cricket title under coach Ricky Ponting.

Cricket is set to make a historic return to the Olympics after a 128-year hiatus, last featured in the 1900 games. The LA28 Organising Committee proposed its inclusion alongside baseball-softball, flag football, lacrosse, and squash, which the International Olympic Committee confirmed in October 2023.
