India's Aditi Ashok opened with a disappointing round of nine-over 81 on the first day of the Women's Scottish Open on Friday.

Positioned at tied 128th, she has virtually ruled herself out of the weekend competition as the projected cut was set at 2-over.

Aditi, coming into Scotland straight from the Paris Olympics, struggled with seven bogeys and a double bogey, failing to secure any birdies for her 9-over performance.

India's other Olympic star, Diksha Dagar, withdrew from the event to recover from a niggle and to take some rest.

Australia's Minjee Lee, meanwhile, surged to the top of the leaderboard after firing a round of 67 (-5) as poor weather conditions led to the suspension of play.

The day's play at Dundonald Links was marred by interruptions, with an hour-long delay at the start. Heavy rainfall halted play again at 11.24 am local time, with action not resuming until 1.30 pm.

Minjee Lee, who was part of the afternoon wave, teed off at 3.52 pm and delivered a bogey-free round with birdies on holes two, six, 10, 14, and 18.

Megan Khang of the US, Korea's A Lim Kim, and England's Lily May Humphreys, all at four-under-par, share second place.
