National record holder Jyothi Yarraji faced disappointment in her debut Olympic appearance, failing to advance to the semifinals of the women's 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

Competing as the first Indian in this event at the Olympics, Yarraji finished fourth in her repechage heat with a time of 13.17 seconds, placing 16th overall out of 40 contestants.

Her performance was below her national record of 12.78 seconds and slightly worse than her heats time of 13.16 seconds recorded on Wednesday. Advancing from Heat 1 to the semifinals were South Africa's Marioune Fourie (12.79s) and Dutch athlete Maayke Tjin-A-Lim (12.87s).
