Rafael Nadal has opted out of this year's U.S. Open citing fitness concerns, the Spanish tennis star announced on Wednesday. Instead, Nadal will participate in the Laver Cup in late September.

Nadal, who last won the U.S. Open in 2019, is skipping the Grand Slam for the second consecutive year. The 38-year-old revealed his decision through a post on social media platform X, expressing his regret about missing the electrifying night sessions in NYC's Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion recently competed at the Paris Olympics but has been plagued by injuries, causing his ranking to drop to 159th. U.S. Open Tournament Director Stacey Allaster wished Nadal well, expressing hope for his return to the tournament.
