Chamari Athapaththu's stellar performance secured Sri Lanka's place in the Women's Asia Cup 2024 final following a thrilling three-wicket victory over Pakistan at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

At one stage, the match could have swung either way, especially in the final over. Sri Lanka chased 141 with wickets falling regularly, but Athapaththu's resolve kept them alive in the game. Despite losing wickets at crucial moments due to Sadia Iqbal's spinning prowess, Athapaththu stood tall.

Reduced to 78/4 in 11.5 overs, Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani stabilized the innings with a 42-run stand. The match witnessed dramatic shifts, with both teams vying desperately for the final spot. Athapaththu's 63 runs brought Sri Lanka within reach before her dismissal left 20 runs needed off the last 18 balls.

Sugandika's aggressive approach in the penultimate over and crucial runs shifted the balance. In the final over, Pakistan's captain Nida Dar's efforts weren't enough as Sanjeewani scored the winning run, guiding Sri Lanka to victory with a ball to spare.

Earlier, Pakistan set a target of 140/4 with notable contributions from Muneeba Ali and Fatima Sana. Despite their efforts, Sri Lanka emerged victorious, setting the stage for a final showdown against India.
