Indian tennis players Rohan Bopanna, Sriram Balaji, and Sumit Nagal are gearing up for fierce competition as they face French opponents in the first round of the Paris Olympics 2024. According to Olympics.com, Bopanna, the World No. 4 in doubles, and Balaji, ranked 65th, are set to confront Fabien Reboul and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

Roger-Vasselin is currently ranked 11th in the ATP doubles rankings, while Reboul stands at 34th. Both pairs enter the men's doubles event unseeded. A victory in the first round would pit the Indian duo against either neutral athletes Daniil Medvedev and Roman Safiullin or Germany's second-seeded team, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz, in the next stage. Meanwhile, World No. 80 Sumit Nagal is slated to challenge 68th-ranked Corentin Moutet in his singles opener. Advancing to the second round would see Nagal face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff or Australia's Alex de Minaur.

Veteran Bopanna, returning to his third Olympics, has a history of notable appearances, including partnerships with Mahesh Bhupathi, Sania Mirza, and Leander Paes. On the other hand, Sumit Nagal made headlines at Tokyo 2020 by becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic singles match in 25 years. Bopanna's chosen partner for the Paris Olympics, N Sriram Balaji, will be making his Olympic debut. The Paris 2024 tennis events will take place on the clay courts of Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4, featuring 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams in the competition.
