Chennai to Host Unique Tennis Tournament: The RWD Open

Chennai will host the RWD Open, a city-based league-cum-knockout tennis championship organized by the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association. Scheduled for August and September, the tournament involves 16 clubs competing in doubles matches across various age groups. Renowned players like Somdev Devvarman will participate, with Rs 2 lakh in total prize money on offer.

Chennai is preparing to host the RWD Open, a unique league-cum-knockout tennis championship organized by the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA).

The tournament, which will take place between August and September, features 16 participating clubs. Each tie will consist of five doubles matches across different age groups, including pairs aged 30+, 35+, 45+, and 55+.

Winners will be determined by the total number of games won. The event boasts a prize pool of Rs 2 lakh, with Rs 1 lakh awarded to the champion, Rs 50,000 to the runner-up, and Rs 25,000 to each losing semi-finalist. Esteemed players like Somdev Devvarman and Vijay Kannan are set to participate.

Notable clubs featured include Anna Nagar K Block, Besant Nagar Club, Cosmopolitan Club, and Madras Cricket Club. TNTA President Vijay Amritraj expressed confidence that the tournament will continue to grow, given the strong local interest in tennis.
