World number one Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis, the Italian confirmed on Wednesday. This development comes after Sinner's impressive performances earlier this year, including winning his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and reaching the semi-finals of the French Open.

In a heartfelt post on X, Sinner stated, "I am saddened to inform you that unfortunately I will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympic Games." He shared that after a week of clay training, he felt unwell and upon consulting a doctor, was diagnosed with tonsillitis and advised against playing.

Sinner expressed his significant disappointment, emphasizing that representing his country at the Games was one of his main goals for the season. Meanwhile, his withdrawal has elevated world number two and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic to the top seed position in the men's singles draw, set to be announced on Thursday. The tournament will run from July 27 to August 4 at Roland Garros, with other notable absences including Marketa Vondrousova and Ben Shelton.
