Ollie Pope Predicts 600-Run Day for England's 'Bazball' in Test Cricket

Ollie Pope believes England's aggressive 'Bazball' approach can help them breach the 600-run mark in a single day's play in Test cricket. Under the leadership of Ben Stokes, England aims to surpass their current record set in 1936. Pope's confidence comes as England dominates the ongoing Test series against the West Indies.

Ollie Pope is confident that England's aggressive 'Bazball' approach can see them surpass the 600-run mark in a single day's play in Test cricket. The current record of 588 runs was set in 1936 against India, but Pope believes the team under Ben Stokes can go even further.

'Sometimes we might score 280 to 300 in a day, and that's OK because we're reading situations. But there might also be a day where we go and get 500 to 600 at some point in the future, and that's a cool thing to have,' Pope told 'BBC Sport'.

In December 2022, England smashed 506 runs on the first day against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. They currently lead the three-match series against the West Indies 2-0 after a comprehensive win at Trent Bridge. The final Test starts Friday at Edgbaston. Pope scored 121 in the first innings of the second Test, one of three England centurions.

Pope emphasized that managing the game might sometimes be necessary, but their attacking style under coach Brendon McCullum and captain Stokes has become second nature. 'We don't get told to play like that; it's just our natural game,' he added.
