U.S. Women's Basketball Team Bounces Back with Dominant Win Over Germany

A'ja Wilson had a standout performance with 19 points and 14 rebounds, leading the U.S. women's basketball team to a commanding 84-57 victory over Germany in an exhibition game.

The Americans rebounded from a rare loss to a team of WNBA All-Stars, having traveled to London for this showdown just days earlier. Both teams are in the same pool for the Olympics and will meet again in Paris on August 4.

'It was a breath of fresh air to get out of All-Star and come here; there's one goal and it's to win,' U.S. guard Sabrina Ionescu shared.

The U.S. team surged ahead with a 22-9 lead, scoring the game's first seven points. By the end of the first quarter, they had secured a 13-point advantage. While Germany narrowed the gap to 27-20 in the second quarter, the Americans were up 44-32 at halftime and dominated the second half.

'We need to continue to make sure our starts in the third get better every single game,' said U.S. forward Breanna Stewart. 'It's a tune-up game. We don't want to peak too soon.' Luisa Geiselsoder's 13 points led Germany.

The U.S. played without Brittney Griner. This marked her first trip overseas since her release from a Russian jail in 2022. The two-time Olympic gold medalist was back with the team seven months after a high-profile prisoner exchange.

Members of the U.S. men's Olympic team were courtside to support the women. The men's team had narrowly defeated Germany 92-88 in their exhibition game on Monday.
