Australian national selector George Bailey has confirmed that the national team intends to progress without the recently-retired David Warner, despite the player's interest in participating in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year.
Warner, 37, retired from international cricket after the T20 World Cup in the Americas, where Australia did not progress beyond the Super 8 stage. Although Warner hinted at a potential comeback for the Champions Trophy, a One-Day International event, Bailey made it clear that their current planning does not include Warner.
"Our understanding is that David is retired, and he should be applauded for an incredible career across all three formats. Certainly, our planning is that he won't be there in Pakistan," Bailey was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
