South Africa's head coach Rassie Erasmus has unveiled a formidable squad for the Springboks' first Castle Lager Incoming Series Test against Ireland at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria this Saturday. The team features a blend of seasoned Rugby World Cup winners and promising newcomers, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated clash between the world's top two ranked teams.

Leading the charge will be a lineup boasting 20 players who were part of South Africa's victorious campaign in the Rugby World Cup, including the entire starting XV from the final and five reserves. Three fresh faces to the international stage—Gerhard Steenekamp (prop), Salmaan Moerat (lock), and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu (utility back)—have earned their spots in a squad that prioritizes a six-two split favoring forwards on the bench.

Twelve of the starting players featured prominently in the Springboks' nail-biting 12-11 triumph over New Zealand in the RWC final, with the remaining trio—Willie le Roux, Kwagga Smith, and Ox Nche—making crucial contributions off the bench. This lineup marks a significant refresh from the team that recently dominated Wales with a 41-13 victory in London, incorporating the return of key figures like captain Siya Kolisi, Le Roux, Cheslin Kolbe, and Handré Pollard.

Erasmus expressed confidence in his squad's depth and experience, particularly highlighting the mental boost provided by their World Cup successes. However, he emphasized that facing Ireland presents a fresh challenge, noting the physicality and resilience they bring to the field.

The Springboks' upcoming clash with Ireland promises to be a test of skill and determination, with Erasmus anticipating a hard-fought battle in front of a sold-out crowd at Loftus Versfeld. He acknowledged Ireland's recent dominance over South Africa but stressed the narrow margins between the teams, predicting an intense contest requiring unwavering commitment over the full 80 minutes.

Kickoff is set for Saturday, with the Springboks aiming to start their Incoming Series campaign on a high against formidable opposition.
