Indian javelin ace Neeraj Chopra is in prime physical form and ready to vie for a medal at the Paris Games, according to Spencer Mackay, head of strength and conditioning at Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS).

Chopra, who underwent rehab for an elbow injury prior to clinching Olympic gold in Tokyo 2021, has recently grappled with an adductor issue. Although he won't participate in the Paris Diamond League, he's set to directly compete in the Olympics.

''He's in excellent physical condition and well-prepared,'' Mackay affirmed in an interview with PTI. ''Past injuries and recent niggles are behind him. As the Olympic finals approach, Neeraj will be in an outstanding position to bring home yet another medal for the country.''

Notably, Chopra returned to competition in June, securing his first gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland and a silver at the Doha Diamond League in May. He also bagged gold at the National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

''Athletes like Neeraj, who compete at the pinnacle of sports, need not be at their best all the time. His clear plan is to stay fit, strong, and balanced for the Olympics,'' Mackay added. IIS has long been a hub for Indian athletes seeking injury recovery and rehabilitation.

Spencer, who has been pivotal to IIS since its inception, underscored the importance of sports science and targeted rehabilitation in modern training regimes. These components are crucial for boosting performance, preventing injuries, and enabling effective recovery.

''India has immense potential to enhance athlete performance, leading to better results at the Olympics,'' he asserted, emphasizing the role of advanced sports training and coach development. Tailored rehab programs, considering specific injuries and psychological aspects, are key to IIS's approach.

Mackay concluded, ''Seeing athletes like Neeraj return to their peak performance levels is incredibly rewarding, highlighting the positive impact of effective rehabilitation.''
