BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Monday confirmed that senior players will feature in next year's Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship final, assuming India qualifies. He stressed that the selectors will independently decide on whether Hardik Pandya will succeed Rohit Sharma as the T20 captain.

During a press interaction, Shah praised the contributions of senior players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who announced their retirement from T20 internationals following India's T20 World Cup win.

Shah emphasized, 'The transition has already occurred with the retirement of the three greats. Our aim is to secure the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy, and the senior players will be part of that journey.'

Shah also highlighted India's upcoming nine ODI matches leading up to the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, where senior players are expected to participate, fitness permitting. India's schedule includes series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and England.

Addressing Hardik Pandya's performance and future role, Shah said, 'The decision on captaincy will rest with the selectors. We witnessed Pandya's significant impact during the World Cup, validating the faith we placed in him.' Pandya played as Rohit's deputy in the T20 format.

India recently overcame an 11-year drought of ICC titles, breaking a string of losses in major finals over the past year. Shah expressed optimism that the team's winning streak would continue.

'We have the strongest bench strength in the world. Only three players from the current squad will go to Zimbabwe. We can field three competitive teams if needed,' Shah asserted.
