National Senior Meet finalist Tanvi Sharma will spearhead India's challenge at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from June 28.

The 18-member Indian team, which includes Junior National ranking champions Pranay Shettigar, Aalisha Naik, and top-ranked junior Dhruv Negi, underwent a preparatory camp at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati before departing on Tuesday.

India is grouped with hosts Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines in Group C of the mixed team championship, aiming for the top spot to secure a favorable knock-out draw.

After the team event, the individual championships will take place, with India fielding four singles players in boys and girls categories and two pairs in boys, girls, and mixed categories.

"We have a very strong and balanced squad, with singles and doubles players experienced in national and international arenas. We are confident the team will return with a medal from Indonesia," stated BAI general secretary Sanjay Mishra.

India has historically won two gold, one silver, and six bronze medals in this competition.
