Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jaismine Lamboria is on the brink of securing a Paris Olympic quota. The 22-year-old boxer outperformed Ana Marija Milisic of Switzerland in a decisive victory to enter the 57kg quarterfinals of the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier.

Dropping down from the 60kg category, Jaismine showcased technical superiority, winning the round of 16 by unanimous decision (5-0). With four quota places available in the women’s 57kg weight class, she needs a win in her upcoming quarterfinal to ensure a spot in the Paris Games, reclaiming the 57kg quota for India.

Indian boxer Parveen Hooda had initially secured the 57kg quota at the 2023 Asian Games but was suspended for a whereabout failure, vacating the slot. Consequently, Jaismine, initially listed as a reserve, had the opportunity to compete. Her convincing performance against Milisic was marked by strategic jabs and a dominating presence in the ring.

In men's boxing, Sachin Siwach will get another opportunity to secure an Olympic berth despite a 0-5 semifinal loss to Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Carlo Paalam. Sachin will compete in a box-off, aiming to secure one of the three available quotas in the 57kg category.
