In a decisive move to combat Delhi's persistent water issues, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled a Rs 9,000 crore plan on Tuesday. This comprehensive strategy focuses on sanitation, expanding drinkable water access, modernizing supply infrastructure, and conserving rainwater.
New initiatives involve establishing borewells, intelligent metering, and transitioning from open canals to pipelines. The push aims to address Delhi's water demand shortfall of 1,290 MGD, against an existing supply capacity of 1,000 MGD.
Additional measures include Rs 200 crore for replacing Haryana's canals with pipelines to curb water loss, Rs 100 crore for new borewells, and significant funds for intelligent systems to track water usage in real-time.
