Funding Shortfalls Threaten Rohingya Refugees' Wellbeing in Bangladesh
Two United Nations agencies warn that funding shortfalls from global donors could severely impact Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The agencies appeal for significant donations to support essential food and educational programs, highlighting the risk of refugees resorting to perilous actions due to inadequate aid.

In a concerning development, two United Nations agencies have cautioned about the severe implications of reduced funding for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The warning was issued as the UNHCR and International Organization for Migration introduced their first joint multi-year funding appeals.
The appeal, launched on Monday, stresses the necessity for continued support in vital areas such as food and educational assistance. Without sufficient funds, these already vulnerable communities could face dire outcomes, potentially leading to dangerous attempts to find safety elsewhere.
The agencies, with help from 113 partners, have called for $934.5 million for the 2025-2026 period, aiming to support nearly 1.48 million individuals, including Rohingya refugees and local communities. The urgency of this appeal follows news of possible cuts to food rations due to donor shortfalls, escalating concerns over food insecurity in overcrowded camps.
