In an extraordinary act of compassion, the family of Veena Jain, a 68-year-old brain-dead woman, donated her organs to save the lives of three critically ill patients. Jain, who suffered from cerebral edema, was hospitalized at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, on March 15. Despite emergency surgery, her condition worsened, and doctors declared her brain dead on March 26, the hospital reported.

Dr. Puneet Agarwal, the principal director of neurology at Max Hospital, explained Jain's condition upon arrival, stating that she exhibited altered consciousness, right-sided weakness, and multiple vomiting episodes. Brain imaging revealed a ruptured aneurysm causing intracranial bleeding. Although surgery was performed, her brain ceased to function. The family chose to donate her organs, offering hope to others in need.

Following the family's consent, doctors retrieved Jain's liver and kidneys for transplantation. One kidney was given to a 60-year-old chronic kidney disease patient. Her liver went to a 68-year-old individual with end-stage liver disease, and the second kidney was allocated through Fortis Hospital. Dr. Subhash Gupta of Liver Transplant and Biliary Sciences emphasized the need for greater organ donation awareness and timely organ retrieval. The hospital's statement underscores the life-saving impact of these donations, urging public awareness of this crucial practice.
